Turnitin

Turnitin is a well known and powerful plagiarism detection software, and having the largest users’ base of academic originality checking system. It is widely used in worldwide universities, academic institution papers and other fields. Its’ detection contrast library contains approximately 150 million massive paper databases, over 90,000 world-renowned periodicals magazine databases, more than 200 million web database.

Turnitin is a cloud-based services and accessible via web browser (no software installation required).

  1. Student can submit assignments for plagiarism checking/detection, export the results of adjustment and print the results.
  2. Able to check document in various formats, including Microsoft Word, pdf, txt, and so on.
  3. Powerful database with multilingual support (foreign languages)
  4. Has a strong background (foreign language) database

Get Started with Turnitin and Academic Similarity Report Portal (ASRP)

  • Lecturer to email librarian@xmu.edu.my or raise AskA with requestors’ First Name, Last Name and Campus Email Address information, for Librarian to review and process the Turnitin’s login access request.
  • Lecturer to login Turnitin using campus email address only.
  • Lecturer is no longer requires to create or manage class in Turnitin (Add Class function not available). Lecturer can use the Quick Submit (max 25 papers per day) feature to check student papers.
  • Both lecturer and student can login to Academic Similarity Report Portal (ASRP) using Campus ID with initial password (last six digits of your IC/Passport number) during first time login, to check on the common class – Class ID and Enrollment Key.
  • The Enrollment Key allows for one-time paper submission, checking, and downloading of similarity reports each day.
  • The enrollment key is updated or reset daily between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. (except weekends and public holidays). So, all users to avoid access to ASRP during this period.
  • Students to create new Turnitin account via https://www.turnitin.com/ using campus email address only. Also, enter the First Name and Last Name appear as in your identity card (IC) or passport, for ease of password reset if requires.
  • Students login to ASRP and check for the common Class ID and Enrollment Key. Then, they can start sign in to https://www.turnitin.com/.
  • Students are required to submit their assignments for plagiarism checking in Turnitin.
  • Students are required to send the saved receipt and plagiarism report to their lecturer or supervisor. (The ASRP function will support student paper submissions by the end of December 2025.)

Forgotten your password or unable to log into your Turnitin account

If you have forgotten your password or unable to log into your account, you can set a new password by using the instructions below:

For Lecturer:

  1. Lecturer is no longer requires to create or manage class in Turnitin (add Class function not available). Lecturer can use the Quick Submit (max 25 papers submission per day) feature to check student papers.
  2. Lecturer can login to Academic Similarity Report Portal (ASRP) Portal to check Common Class ID and Enrollment Key.

For Student:

  1. Student to sign in to Turnitin class using Campus Email Address only.
    Student is advised to download and save the requires paper and similarity report as backup.
  2. All accounts creation using personal email address will be removed immediately upon daily account clean up.
  3. Students must obtain the Class ID and enrollment key from ASRP for their papers submission.
  4. The enrollment key allows one-time paper submission, checking, and downloading of similarity report each day.
  5. Send the saved receipt and plagiarism report to your lecturer or supervisor (ASRP function will support student paper submissions by end of December)
  6. The enrollment key is reset daily between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. (except weekends and public holidays). Avoid access to ASRP during this period.
  7. Reminder! Students need to download the similarity report on the same day, and resubmit the paper the next day if necessary.
  1. Go to www.turnitin.com and click on “Log In” button at the top right.
  2. Click on the “Forgot your password? Click here” link.
  3. Follow the next instruction to enter your mail address & your “First Name” or “Last Name” (Use the First Name or Last Name appear as in your identity card or passport, similarly during Turnitin account creation earlier) and then click “Next”
  4. Answer your secret question. If you have forgotten the answer to your secret question, click the link Forgot your answer? A link will be sent to your email (either in the Inbox or Junk folders) to enter a new password. You have 24 hours to change your password using that link.
    Note: If you could not find the reset password mail, try to search for an email from noreply@turnitin.com in your inbox folder and click on “here” link to enter a new password.
  5. On the password reset page, enter a new password and log into Turnitin using the e-mail and new password for your profile. Reminder!! If you are unable to recall your security questions password, you can select the option to proceed with the new password setting instead.
