ABOUT CAMPUS MINI CINEMA

The XMUM mini cinema is located at first floor of Block A3 Library Innovation Space.

It can host a variety of movie event such as movie screenings  education movie events. The mini cinema has a capacity of 40 audiences and is specifically set up for the showing of either reel to reel films, digital films, DVDs and 3D movie. it is equipped with 3D Laser Projector, capable of displaying stunning 3D pictures up to 2K WUXGA resolution through a 270cm (H) x 485cm (W) 536cm218.5inches (D) projection screen. Powered by 5.1 surround sound system via lossless audio from Dolby TrueHD and DTS audio, delivers a powerful and dramatic cinema sound listening experience from 360 degrees around the audience listener.

Prepare to indulge yourself in 3D movie experience with an exciting immersive experience and powerful dramatic sound effect audio experience from every part in the cinema single seat in the entire room!

How To Book

Currently, the campus mini cinema is reserved for academic and research purposes only. The mini cinema booking form is available for download on the XMUM E-Services platform.

If you would like to make a booking,

  1. Faculty staff can fill up mini cinema booking form and to be approved by the respective faculties’ HOD or Dean.
  2. Submit the approved form to both librarian@xmu.edu.my and it@xmu.edu.my for further review and processing

Booking Guidelines

Faculty

To ensure an optimal and respectful environment for academic enrichment, all users of the Mini Cinema are expected to adhere to the following regulations:

  1. Academic-Related Usage Only
  • The Mini Cinema is strictly reserved for academic-related activities, such as:
    • Class presentations
    • Research-based film analysis
    • Faculty-approved academic screenings
    • Educational workshops or seminars
  • Applications for non-academic purposes (e.g., movie screenings) may be considered on a case-by-case basis under the following conditions:
    • Weekdays: Screenings must end by 6:00 PM.
    • Weekends: Screenings must end by 4:30 PM (Note: weekend bookings are generally discouraged due to limited staffing).
  1. Media Legitimacy
  • Only original, licensed, or institutionally approved media is allowed.
  • Pirated or unauthorized content is strictly prohibited under university and copyright policy.
  1. Furniture & Cleanliness
  • All furniture must be returned to its original position after each session.
  • The space must be left clean and in order.
  • No food or drinks are allowed inside the Mini Cinema at any time.
  1. Control Room Access
  • Access to the control room is restricted to 1-2 designated persons only.
  • These persons must be responsible for operating equipment under supervision, if necessary.
  1. Operational Hours & Presentation Timing
  • All presentations or screenings must be aligned with the library’s operational hours (9:00 AM – 6:00 PM on weekdays), unless otherwise stated.
  • Early setup and tear down must be accounted for within the allocated booking time.
  1. Booking Requirements
  • Bookings must be made each academic semester.
  • The application process is available via the Library Booking Portal at linc.xmu.edu.my.
  • All bookings by Student Clubs & Societies must be made in consultation with library staff.
  1. Assistance & Supervision
  • For any technical issues or procedural uncertainties, please contact the library staff immediately.
  • Library staff reserve the right to inspect or supervise any session if needed.

Club and Society

Please take note of the following regulations regarding the usage of the Mini Cinema:

    Non-academic movie screenings may be considered on a case-by-case basis and are subject to the following conditions:
    • Weekdays: Screenings must end by 6:00 PM.
    • Weekends: Screenings must end by 4:30 PM. However, weekend bookings are generally discouraged due to limited library operating resources.
  3. Legitimate Media Requirement
    All students must ensure that only legitimate, licensed, or original media is used for screenings. The use of pirated or unauthorized content is strictly prohibited.
  4. For all applications by Student Clubs & Societies, kindly consult the library staff for further action and guidance.

Rules & Guidelines

Audiences are prohibited from:

  1. Smoking in all areas of the cinema, in particular it is forbidden to smoke any tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, by means of so-called smokeless electronic devices, e.g. IQOS, vaporizers, etc.;
  2. Entering the cinema with food and beverages except plain drinking water;
  3. Entering the cinema under the influence of alcohol and other intoxicants;
  4. Bring any animals into the cinema;
  5. Using a mobile phone during a film performance;
  6. Disturbing film performances by loud talking, whistling and in other ways contrary to the principles of social behaviour;
  7. Using physical force, obscene language or gestures or expressions, or any language that denigrates a race, religion or ethnicity;
  8. Damaging the cinema property in any way, including writing, spraying, scratching, etc.;
  9. Deliberately damage any safety equipment;
  10. Making any audio, visual or audio-visual recordings during a film performance on any equipment capable of making such recordings;

Additional Rules for 3D Digital Projection

The Operator does not take any responsibility for possible health problems of sensitive individuals when visiting the 3D projection (nausea, headache, eye fatigue, etc.). Every visitor who visits the 3D digital projection will receive a special glasses on arrival at the hall.

It is the duty of each visitor to follow the rules below throughout the visit to the cinema:

  1. never clean the glasses or touch the lenses, as this may cause irreversible damage to their sensitive surface.
  2. in case of dirt on the glasses or any other defects or damage, contact the cinema staff only.
  3. always return the glasses to the cinema staff when leaving the hall, if the halls are without the cinema staff, hand over the glasses at a predetermined place.

*In the event of damage to the glasses, the operator reserves the right to recover the damage from user.

Under no circumstances will the University be held responsible or liable in any way for any claims, damages, losses, expenses, costs or liabilities whatsoever.

You hereby understand and agree that the Services are provided to you on “as is where is” and “best-effort” basis without any express or implied warranty or condition of any kind. We do not make representations towards the accuracy, satisfactory quality, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.
